Anderson, Director <br />DATE: January 24, 7979 <br />RE: hionthly Update, January, 1979 <br />The purpose of this report is to keep the Parks end Recreation Commission <br />informed on current issues within the Parks, Recreation and Forestry <br />Oepartment that do not need official Commission action. <br />Administrator Resigns - Friday, January 19, 1979 was the tast day for Hbunds <br />View City Administrator Mark Achen. Mark had been with the City for 4-1/2 <br />years and recently accepted a new positian as City Manager in Gtadstone, <br />Missauri. I have been appointed to serve as the acting administrator for <br />the interim before a new administrator is selected. The deadline for accepting <br />applications has been set for February 10 with a new administrator hopefu77y <br />appointed by May L � <br />Winter Skating - Following a sorrewhat controversial beginning, the skating <br />rinks are nav all in excetlent condition. We have been flooding the rinks <br />daily when weather permits and we should have an excellent second half. <br />Council Orientation - The hbunds View City Councii has been meeting with eacb <br />of t e City Oepartment Heads on Saturday mornings during the past month to <br />discuss the existing role of their department as well as the future. Our <br />deparUrent will be visited at 70:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 3. <br />Skating Rink Lights - The new lighting system at Edgewood Jr. High Schoot and <br />Groveland Park have been hooked up and are in good operating condition. We <br />hare sent letters to both areas apologizing and explaining the delay in the <br />co�ryletion of th� light systems. <br />Teri DeDarts - Tzri Trortbley our part-time C.E.T.A. secretary will be leaving <br />us on Friday, January 26 as her work program will be drawing to a close. Teri <br />wili be sorely missed as she has proved to be extremely helpful in a�riad of <br />wdys. <br />We have re-su6mitted n�r application to C.E.T.A. for a replacement, but as of <br />Nednesday, we have not received approval. <br />Grant ApDlication - Under the direction of Mary, we have submitted a sponsor <br />assistance graii to the Minnesota State Arts Board. The grant is for $325.00 <br />which aill be u_ed by the Festivities Commission if funded to provide enterv <br />tainment at the Sth Annual Festival in the Park Celebration. This year's <br />celebration will be held on Sunday, July 15, 7979. <br />Park Cortmission to be Finalized - The City Council adopted an ordinance change <br />at e r regularly sc e u e January 22 meeting to expand the Park Commission <br />mertbership from 7 mertbers to 9. The 7979 Comnission me�er appointments was <br />tabled for further discussion until the February 12, 1979 ireeting. <br />
