MEMO T0: Parks and Recreation Commiss'�i� FROM: Bruce K. Anderson, Director DATE: January 24, 7979 RE: hionthly Update, January, 1979 The purpose of this report is to keep the Parks end Recreation Commission informed on current issues within the Parks, Recreation and Forestry Oepartment that do not need official Commission action. Administrator Resigns - Friday, January 19, 1979 was the tast day for Hbunds View City Administrator Mark Achen. Mark had been with the City for 4-1/2 years and recently accepted a new positian as City Manager in Gtadstone, Missauri. I have been appointed to serve as the acting administrator for the interim before a new administrator is selected. The deadline for accepting applications has been set for February 10 with a new administrator hopefu77y appointed by May L � Winter Skating - Following a sorrewhat controversial beginning, the skating rinks are nav all in excetlent condition. We have been flooding the rinks daily when weather permits and we should have an excellent second half. Council Orientation - The hbunds View City Councii has been meeting with eacb of t e City Oepartment Heads on Saturday mornings during the past month to discuss the existing role of their department as well as the future. Our deparUrent will be visited at 70:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 3. Skating Rink Lights - The new lighting system at Edgewood Jr. High Schoot and Groveland Park have been hooked up and are in good operating condition. We hare sent letters to both areas apologizing and explaining the delay in the co�ryletion of th� light systems. Teri DeDarts - Tzri Trortbley our part-time C.E.T.A. secretary will be leaving us on Friday, January 26 as her work program will be drawing to a close. Teri wili be sorely missed as she has proved to be extremely helpful in a�riad of wdys. We have re-su6mitted n�r application to C.E.T.A. for a replacement, but as of Nednesday, we have not received approval. Grant ApDlication - Under the direction of Mary, we have submitted a sponsor assistance graii to the Minnesota State Arts Board. The grant is for $325.00 which aill be u_ed by the Festivities Commission if funded to provide enterv tainment at the Sth Annual Festival in the Park Celebration. This year's celebration will be held on Sunday, July 15, 7979. Park Cortmission to be Finalized - The City Council adopted an ordinance change at e r regularly sc e u e January 22 meeting to expand the Park Commission mertbership from 7 mertbers to 9. The 7979 Comnission me�er appointments was tabled for further discussion until the February 12, 1979 ireeting.
