-2- It was advised by City Attorney Meyers and suggested by Director Anderson that the Parks and Recreation Commissioners become involved in a cooperative relationship with Kraus/ Anderson, explaining the needs and interests of the community and the important part that Silver View Park plays in the city wide park and open space plan. It was suggested that a joint meeting with Staff, Commissioners, Attorney Meyers, and Kraus/Anderson be held in January and be dedicated to the Silver View Park issue. Director Anderson reported that the acquisition of develop- ment funding will be received sometime in 7979-1980 and will total approximately $100,000.00. Winter Skating Director Anderson reported that the present skating rink ice development is excellent. Ice will be ready for skating within three more floodings. The weather has coaperated perfectly. Rinks will open Saturday, December 16. Times of operation are basically similar to last year except for additional hours on Frida.ys and Saturdays. Schedule of rink hours is as follows: hbndays - Thursdays 4:00-9:00 p.m. Fridays 4:00-10:00 p.m. Saturdays 10:30 a.m. - 10:00 p.m. Sundays 7:00-9:00 p.m. Vacation Hours: hbndays - Saturday 10:30 a.m. - 10:00 p.m. Sunday 1:00-9:00 p.m. Director Mderson also reported the absence of a shelter building at Groveland Park. Lighting has been provided at Edgewood Jr. High School rink. Lighting fixtures and hockey boards are as yet being anxiously awaited for placement at Greenfield Park. Contracts are being mailed to recently interviewed rink attendants. ihe skating rink season has been extended one week (weather permitting) Sn order to make skating facilities availabie during Energy Week (students are on one weeks school vacation). Rink closings are anticipated to occur February 26. Visitor's Report Mr. and Mrs. Miller, 5287 Raymond Avenue attended the meeting in order to express interest in the Lindy's Qymnastic program. At present, the Recreation Department is not sponsoring the program because of past financiat burdens associated with the program. The Commission requested that staff continue to offer the program in such a manner that the program would remain self-supporting. Staff will work with Bob Lindberg, coach of Lindy's Gymnastics. Parks 8 Open Space Directar Anderson distributed various cit5es' Parks and Open Plan Space P1ans for review. The Commission was asked whether the Cammission felt that such a plan was profitable for pursuit by Staff and Commissioners.
