Parks and Recreation Commission Minutes <br />May 26, 1983 <br />Paye two <br />resident; 40 from either New eriyhton, Shoreview <br />�', or Arden Hills. Mr. Holmes fu[ther indicated that <br />608 of Che reyisCered boxers who �articipa[cd <br />cainc Erom separated or sinyle ��aren[ families; A <br />of the young people had been recommended to the <br />progcam from druy abuse programs also. He <br />indicated that it appears [hat [he Golden Gloves <br />eoxing Proyram is meeting the needs of one <br />segment of our society. He also indicated that <br />the injury problems associated with professional <br />boxing were not as severe at the Golden Gloves <br />level due to the close restrictions. He fucthec <br />indicated that boxiny was 14th on the injury lisG <br />for youth sports behind tennis with football and <br />ice hockey rated #1 and #2. Following the <br />presentation by Mr. Holmes, a motion was made by <br />Commission Bowman, sewnded by Commissioner <br />Wermayer to support and maintain the Golden Glove <br />Boxing Program in the City of Mounds View. The <br />motion passed unanimously. <br />7 ayes <br />0 nayes <br />LAM�ERT PARK Staff showed a movie outlining the development <br />CREATi�£ PLAY AREA oE creative play areas throuyh local neighborhood <br />-�� involvement and reported on the status of working <br />�.,�_. with Paul Hogan, a consultant from Pennsylvania. <br />Staff indicated that it appeared from the Lambert <br />Park ice cream social that there was not a great <br />tleal of interest from the local neighborhood to <br />construct playground equipment at that respective <br />site. Following a great deal of discussion, a <br />motion was made by Commissioner Bowman, seconded <br />by Commissioner Wermager to direct staff to draft <br />a creative play area/tot lot using the existing <br />equipment at Lambert Park, Red Oak and also pur- <br />chase new equipment with the 5800.00 budgeted from <br />revenue sharing. Sinderson family to support <br />a youth coaching program. The Park and Recreation <br />Commission directed s[aEf to forward a letter to <br />the Sinderson Family and also to review the <br />possibility of purchasiny a walnut plaque that <br />could be hung in the council chambers <br />acknowledging the various memorials and donations <br />from community groups. <br />'�/ <br />
