Vark and Rec[eaGion CommiSSion Minutes <br />September 1, 1983 <br />Paye two <br />� <br />COUNCILMEMBER'S <br />REPORT (CONT'D) Council to es[ablish more money for park <br />priorities, especially for new eyuipment and to[ <br />lots in the local neighborhood parks. <br />Commissioner Silvis indicated to his fellow <br />commissioners tha[ possibly some type of <br />lobbyiny or discussion at [he City Council <br />meetinys miyht be necessary to let the Council <br />know how impor[ant park priorities are within <br />the City. <br />Park antl Recreation Direc[or Anderson indicated <br />that [he City Council had been very supportive <br />of park projects and felt that the Park <br />Commission should be appreciative of t�e <br />dollars that had been prioritized, given the <br />extremely tiyht Eiscal condition the City is in, <br />AQUATIC COORDINATOR StaEf introduced Maureen Thielen as the new <br />POSITION Aquatics Dieector hired formally by the City <br />Council on August 22, 1983. Ms. Thielen <br />provided a brief update on her past backyround <br />and experiences as well as indicating some key <br />projects that she will be involved in during the p�-'""� <br />coming months. Staff further stated that i, <br />Lakeside Beach was formally closed on August 28 '�"" <br />after a successful summmec with only one minor <br />acciden[. In adtlition, it was stated that <br />Playground, Inc. had been formally dissolved <br />with a quit claim deed; with t�e Cities of <br />Spring Lake Park and Mounds View joint owners of <br />the Lakeside Park property. The Eall swimming <br />program was also highlighted by staff with <br />copies oE [he scheAUle distributed to each oE <br />[he Commissioner5. In adAition, stafE stated that an <br />application had been submitted for a 1984 <br />L.A.W.C.O.N. gCant whiCh inCluded ConStCUCtiOn <br />of four lit tennis courts, paving of t�e parking <br />lot and cons[ruction of bollard and chains <br />around Che existing parking lot. <br />L. <br />
