POSITION DESCRIPTION • <br />Position Title: Engineering/Information Systems Technician <br />Department: Public Works <br />Accountable To: Public Works Director <br />Status: Non-Exempt <br />PRIMARY OBJECTIVE OF POSITION <br />Maintains the City's computer network on a day-to-day basis, and performs system <br />administrator duties in making improvements and additions to the system. Maintains the <br />City's phone and voicemail system on a day-to-day basis, and coordinates all changes <br />and repairs to the system. Coordinates with consultants and maintenance contractors <br />on the maintenance and repair of the City Hall building. Maintains technical and <br />engineering work related to computer network and applications, and operation of <br />geographic information system. Performs field inspections, assists with surveying, and <br />other technical fieldwork. <br />SUPERVISION RECEIVED <br />Works under the general guidance and direction of the Publ'sc Works Director. <br />SUPERVISION EXERCISED • <br />None, although may have lead responsibility for technical projects such as maintaining <br />the city's computer network, phone and voicemail system, City Hall building systems <br />and the geographic information system. <br />ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES <br />Computer Network <br />• Maintains the City's computer network including researching, recommending, <br />purchasing and implementing system improvements, troubleshooting day-to- <br />day problems with hardware and software, set-up of work stations, and general <br />maintenance. Takes responsibility for doing system back-up, and file restoration. <br />Coordinates activities with external resources and agencies including vendors, <br />consultants, other governmental units and maintenance contractors. Maintains <br />inventory of computer equipment and supplies. Develops, analyzes, implements <br />and maintains new and existing software systems and techniques. Oversite of <br />City's electronic filing system. Serves as network administrator. <br />• Serves as a member of the Management of Information Systems (MiS) <br />committee, and provides technical advice and recommendations on the <br />purchase of capital equipment and computer programs to City management. <br />Implements the capital acquisition program for the computer system approved by <br />City management. <br />Phone and Voicemail System <br />Maintains the C'sty's phone and voicemail system including troubleshooting <br />• <br />
