*****PROPOSED***** <br />CITY OF MOUNDS VIEW <br />POSITION DESCRIPTION <br />Position Title: Maintenance Worker (Drinking Water) <br />Department: Public Works — Operation and Maintenance (O&M) Division <br />Accountable to: Director of Public Works <br />FLSA Status: Non -Exempt (Public Works Collective Bargaining Unit) <br />PRIMARY OBJECTIVE OF POSITION <br />To perform a wide variety of skilled and general maintenance work activities and functions including <br />operating, maintaining, inspecting, and repairing the infrastructure and equipment associated with the <br />municipal drinking water system including water distribution pipes and services, gate valves and curb <br />stops, fire hydrants, water meters and readers, well houses and water treatment plants, water tower <br />and storage systems, and the booster station. This position primarily focuses on the drinking water <br />distribution system components and will assume the responsibilities of the Lead Utility Worker in <br />his/her absence. <br />This position will also perform work tasks of other O&M subdivisions involving wastewater collection <br />system, stormwater conveyance and ponds, streets and trails, parks and recreation facilities, buildings <br />and grounds, and fleet maintenance when assigned by the Public Works Supervisor, including <br />participating in the Standby Duty and Call Back programs for after-hours and weekend maintenance, <br />repairs, and emergencies. <br />SUPERVISION RECEIVED <br />This position is supervised by and works under the general guidance and direction of the Public Works <br />Supervisor. <br />SUPERVISION EXERCISED <br />No direct supervision is exercised by this position. May oversee the work of full-time and seasonal <br />maintenance workers on occasion when assigned by the Public Works Supervisor. <br />ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES <br />• Operate and maintain watermain pipes, gate valves, hydrants, and other infrastructure of the <br />municipal drinking water distribution system. Assist with maintaining and repairing private water <br />service lines, curb and corporation stops, and connections as part of the City's water service line <br />repair program. <br />• Locate and mark underground municipal infrastructure involving water, sanitary sewer, stormwater, <br />fiber optic, and electric lines as part of the Gopher State One Call program. Obtain and reference <br />as -built drawings, tie sheets, and other archive records and translate to field locations. Use utility <br />line locater, probes, or hand digging to locate underground lines. <br />• Perform preventative system maintenance including flushing hydrants, exercising gate valves, <br />rehabilitating hydrants, replacing meter reader batteries, water leak surveys, etc. <br />• Respond to and participate in locating and fixing water main breaks and water service leaks. <br />Determine materials needed for repair and install clamps, pipe or fittings, and make proper tie-in. <br />Operate and maintain vehicles, equipment, and tools used in performing duties including pickup <br />and dump trucks, backhoe/loader, front-end loader, utility line locater, cameras, computer, and <br />other commonly used equipment and tools. <br />Maintenance Worker (Drinking Water) Position Description <br />Page 1/4 <br />
