Code Enforcement Summar
The theme of Code Enforcement during 2012 was increased communication. This was
accomplished by means of the creation of a mobile phone application named "My Mounds
View" and an eFeedback manager accessible from the Internet. These tools created additional
reporting capabilities for the City and also allow for increased communications with residents
and others concerned with maintaining and improving the City.
During 2012, there were eleven property abatements completed. The majority of the abatements
were regarding long grass. The dry summer did significantly reduce the number of long grass
related property abatements as compared to the previous year.
In addition to implementing the eFeedback manager and the My Mounds View application, the
City purchased a GIS lite license that allows for mapping code enforcement cases into Google
Maps. The mapping feature went live in July of 2012, thus the mapping data does not include the
entire year of code enforcement cases. (The map below shows seven of the eleven properties
where City -ordered abatements occurred.)
In August of 2012 the "My Mounds View" phone application development was completed and
the application became available for free download onto "Android" based mobile telephones.
The development of the app for the iPhone was delayed due to changes in the iPhone operating
system. The "My Mounds View" application was released to the Apple iTunes store for
downloading onto iPhones and iPads at the beginning of 2013. During 2012, there were 144 code
enforcement cases opened up using the "My Mounds View" application, of those 144 cases 56
were generated by means of the mobile "My Mounds View" application.
Additionally, the My Mounds View communication tool established an online website within the
existing City website with answers to Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ). This functions as a
searchable "knowledge base" on the website where searches can be completed and answers
provided to some of the most frequently asked questions. During 2012 there were 434 visits to
the FAQ page and 159 answers were viewed.
Page 19
