of Mounds View Staff <br />Item No: 09G <br />Meeting Date: October 9 2017 <br />Type of Business: Business <br />A �' <br />To: Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />From: Nyle Zikmund, Interim City Administrator <br />Subject: Resolution 8844, Authorizing the Hire of Kathy Bednar on a Part- <br />time Temporary Basis to Provide Administrative Assistance to Police <br />Department <br />Introduction: <br />Jennifer Fulton tendered her resignation from the Police Department on October 4, 2017. There <br />is an immediate need for administrative assistance in the Police Support Service area. Recently <br />retired (2016) employee Kathy Bednar has expressed a desire to assist the City during this time <br />of transition on a part-time, temporary basis. Given her years of experience and extensive skill <br />set, Ms. Bednar would be a welcomed addition to the staff, even if on a temporary basis. <br />Discussion: <br />Chief Harder has spoken with Ms. Bednar who is willing to assist the City during this time of <br />transition. Duties would include police records and management, assisting members of the <br />public at the counter, and other duties as may be assigned. The temporary, part-time position <br />would start on or after October 9, 2017. Ms. Bednar would be a valuable resource to Chief <br />Harder and the Police Department <br />The hourly rate for the position would be $25.17 and the hours would be capped at no more than <br />40 per pay period. While no holiday pay, sick leave or vacation pay would accrue with this <br />temporary, part time position, the City is willing to provide 8 hours of personal leave for every 240 <br />hours worked. The temporary, part-time position would not qualify for insurance benefits. <br />Recommendation: <br />Staff recommends that the City Council approve Resolution 8844, approving the hire of Kathy <br />Bednar on a part-time, temporary basis, to assist the police department with administrative <br />matters as indicated and as needed. <br />Respectfully submitted, <br />r <br />Nyl ikmu <br />Interim City Administrator <br />
