MO(0N:D7tSVV1-EW <br />City of Mounds View Staff Report <br />Item No:8G <br />Meeting Date: March 26, 2018 <br />Type of Business: Council Business <br />Administrator Review: <br />To: Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />From: Don Peterson, Public Works Director <br />Item Title/Subject: Resolution 8936 Approving Building Alterations and Building <br />Maintenance needs for Community Center <br />Background: <br />The City of Mounds View has an agreement with the YMCA to facilitate the City of Mounds <br />View Park and Recreation programs and the Community Center. In this agreement it also <br />states in Exhibit III: Duties and responsibilities of the City (section 4) The City will adopt a <br />budget and a 5 year capital improvement plan for the Community Center on or before <br />December 31 for the subsequent year. In addition, work with YMCA to develop and implement <br />the capital improvement plan for the subsequent year. <br />Public Works Staff has meet with the YMCA Staff members regarding building alterations and <br />maintenance needs for the Community Center. Staff has meet with vendors and contractors <br />in order to obtain quotes for the building alterations and maintenance needs. These building <br />alterations were then presented to the YMCA Advisory Committee to gain input and further <br />direction was decided to move forward with projects. During the 2018 budget process the City <br />Council was presented with the projects and approved moving forward also. <br />Discussion: <br />Staff had been working for several months to acquire quotes for these building alterations <br />maintenance items and Audio Visual upgrades. <br />The following is a breakdown of the projects being proposed in the Community Center; <br />• Repair the wall dividers in the Event Center. These walls appear to be original and <br />have had major repair work performed and limited maintenance has occurred over <br />the past several years. Public Works Staff was able to get the manufacturing <br />representative out and provide a quote for the needed repairs and maintenance. To <br />be funded from account 480-4470-3030. <br />• Repairs and service to the gym to the bleachers, center curtain and basketball hoops. <br />To be funded from account 480-4470-3030. <br />• Updates and new installation of audio visual and sound system to the Event Center. <br />This is needed to further enhance the Event Center and will assist in renting out the <br />Event Center during the weekday for corporate events such as training or seminars <br />during the weekdays. To be funded from account 480-4480-7050. <br />• Installation of rest rooms in the men' and women's locker rooms. Currently inside the <br />locker rooms just off the gym there are no rest rooms. Being proposed is to remove <br />some sections of lockers in each locker room and add one stall with a stool in each <br />locker room. To be funded from 480-4470-7050 <br />• YMCA staff presented to the City Council at the February Works session a proposal <br />to expand the fitness area. The fitness area would move to the Aspen meeting room <br />
