yl It
asking for simple things. Mr. Mueller stated he was "blown off' in both of his appearances
before the Council, not necessarily all of you. Mr. Mueller stated he is not asking too much, but
is asking for the safety of the children on our street. Mr. Mueller stated he remembers when
different people have taken office and their street seemed to be patrolled quite heavily. Long
Lake Road has sidewalks. Mr. Mueller stated Groveland Road now has become a direct
thoroughfare for commuters between Highway 10 and 85th going out to 118 and on to 35W
because of the lack of metering lights, so it is a good way to get on without going through the
metering lights. Mr. Mueller stated he stands at the end of his driveway and he watches people,
these are not the residents that live on this street, these are people that are driving through. You
were talking earlier about"getting some hard earned cash from people at the golf course." Mr.
Mueller stated we can get some "hard earned cash" from a lot of these people if we put some of
our police officers on the street, but it doesn't happen. Mr. Mueller realizes the fact that we are
limited, not knowing how many police cars we have in Mounds View, but when Mr. Mueller
drove up tonight I saw four of them sitting in back of this building. Mr. Mueller knows they
have paperwork, they have other things to do, not saying anything against the Mounds View
police department. Mr. Mueller stated what he is saying is that we have to have cars on the
street, we have to be there. Mr. Mueller was told once by the Council that we were going to
adopt a zero tolerance law. Mr. Mueller stated this is wonderful, but we still have to be there to
catch these people. This hasn't happened. Mr. Mueller has invited the Mayor and Council
Members to come and sit in his driveway. Mr. Mueller will feed and give you refreshments, if
needed. Mr. Mueller believes he is not asking for much. Mr. Mueller does not want to come
here after a child has been hit. Mr. Mueller stated there is a 30 m.p.h. speed limit sign way down
on one end and there is a 30 m.p.h. speed limit sign down on the other end. Mr. Mueller stated
the stop sign might as well not be there on Groveland Road, because the only people that stop
there are the residents that live there, no one else does. Mr. Mueller stated cars race down the
street. Mr. Mueller stated at first he thought this would be a passing thing, but it is getting worse
and worse. The more people that are using that and the more that 118 is developed, the worse
this is getting. Mr. Mueller stated he believes this is a major problem, and something has to be
done here. Mr. Mueller stated we can't have that many"bad guys"running around Mounds
View. Mr. Mueller stated if the police would flood that area for a week, it would send a message
to these people that use this street on a daily basis. Mr. Mueller stated when he gets home from
work at night, he can tell you the exact cars that will coming by. Mr. Mueller stated these are the
same people doing this.
Mayor Coughlin stated he lives on the north end, on Spring Lake Road, and the Public Works
director can attest to the fact that it looks like an Iraqi mine field because it has not been updated.
Mr. Mueller stated this is not so bad because they don't speed on that street.
Mayor Coughlin stated people still speed on this street. He stands by his mailbox and sees trucks
and buses going in excess of 30 m.p.h. Mayor Coughlin stated he understands because they use
that street as a cut through between T.H. 10 and County Road J as well.
8 U:\CARIS\COUNCIL\MINUTES\MVCC22.MAR
IG
flf
