• I met with the Department of Public Works on Wednesday in an opening meeting on their
collective bargaining positions and will brief the Council Monday. It was our first meeting,
and I expect to move on the agreement in the coming weeks in concert with the budget
development.
• That's it for now. How 'bout those Vikings!
Chuck
• Thursday, September 19, 1996 I attended Briggs and Morgan's 14th annual Labor and
Employment Law Seminar. The focus for this years seminar was on"Current Issues in the
Workplace." The information provided was very informative.
• Interviews for the Public Works Maintenance position were held Thursday and Friday of this
week. The interview panel consisted of Mike Ulrich, Tim Pittman and myself. A total of
5 applicants were scheduled for interviews.
• Fall Clean Up Day Recap- The rain did not stop residents from participating in this year's
fall clean up day. Preliminary results of the clean up day prove this year's event to be a
great success
Lynnette
ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT
• Several actions came out of the EDC meeting this month. An RFP for professional services
was approved. It will be mailed to over a dozen land use planning consultants the first week
in October and reviewed by the EDC at their meeting October 24th. The EDC reviewed a
loan request from Addie Lane Floral to expand their product base to allow espresso and
pastries. The request was denied based upon historic repayment ability and a secondary
repayment source. The EDC did mention that they would reconsider if Addie Lane could
secure a guarantor who has adequate financial strength and would pledge additional
collateral to support the loan. This was a very difficult decision since Carol Johnson has
been a great supporter of the City and Chamber activities. She does have the option to try
and come back to the EDC with the additional financial backing or go directly to the Council
for the request as is. I discussed this with Carol and she will be reviewing her options and
will get back to me.
• I attended a seminar through the State Department of Trade and Economic Development
regarding a new prospecting system they will be implementing to address inquiries regarding
commercial\industrial space. This new system will replace the Star City Process to more
effectively deal with prospects in an equitable manner. It is up to the community to respond
to their requests for information based upon site selection criteria.
