Have a good weekend and see you on Monday. Chuck • I have been spending much time getting prepared for the 1996 Primary and General Elections. In the election meetings attended lately,I have heard many horror stories of other cities. With the group of experienced election judges and new judges the City has working this year, I am confident we will address the problems before they happen. Kathy MacRunnels and I will be training about twenty-five judges next week. • In a combined effort of seven cities (including Mounds View), the TUG Safety Committee has put together a very comprehensive safety training document for Minnesota cities to follow. It has taken us a tremendous amount of time and effort to complete it, but we are very pleased with the final result. Dawn ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT • Attended another 35W Corridor Coalition Meeting this week. The group will be applying for a Demonstration Grant through the Livable Communities Act to help fund a coordinated regional plan for the 35W Corridor Area. A resolution is expected to come before the Council regarding the specifics of the application and to gain support at one of the meetings in August. • The State Office of the Legislative Auditor was required to evaluate the use of Tax Increment Financing by communities per 1995 legislation and hence came out with a report addressing their findings. With the 1997 legislative session nearing there has been much talk regarding potential new restrictive Tax Increment legislation that could have a significant effect on Mounds View funds. Chuck and I will be following the issue and coming up with some plans to address the impact to Mounds View. For your information I have included the recommendations from the Office of the Legislative Auditor which will be used in formulating new legislation in 1997. If you are interested in reviewing the entire document I have a few copies in my office.
