THlS IS
FOR THE WEEK OF JUNE 3 - JUNE 7, 1996
ADMINISTRATION
Two of the last six work days have been spent interviewing community development and finance
director positions. I am pleased with the quality of the applicants and am confident of hiring
soon. Right now I need to do background work on the applicants and may have the community
development position ready for Monday evening. If so, I will request it be added to the agenda.
I also want to thank Dawn, Cathy and Lynette for their time and input in the interview process. I
thought it went very well.
As some of you know, the Council and staff spent quite a bit of time on the Bel Rae project at
Monday's work session. I believe all agreed some progress was made in defining the widest
parameters of the possible project. With Council's understanding, staff will be working to
narrow down some options for project consideration. Basically, this means options ranging from
refurbished Bel Rae and up to eight court volleyball center, to a narrower focused minimum cost
Bel Rae improvement. Cathy and I will be meeting with the architect to better define building
costs and lower cost options, and with our fiscal advisor to estimate cash flow options. I felt that
the rational thinking process on Monday evening and patience displayed helped move this
forward for the Council, and I am sure continued attention to factual options and consideration
for the concerns of members will bring this project to a successful culmination for the
community. We will likely give further consideration to surveying the community once the
options have been clarified and understood by the Council. Pending that, the disciplined
attention to the project will make it succeed.
As everyone probably knows by now, Michele has submitted her resignation effective June 18.
Everyone feel free to stop by and punch her in the arm. I want to say that in the two months I
have worked here (44 working days), I have enjoyed working with Michele and will miss her.
