Best of luck to you Michele.
Next week is the League of Minnesota Cities Conference in Rochester and I will be attending
with Julie Trude and Lynette Morgan Tuesday night through Thursday. I should also mention
that it appears I will be a Rotarian again for the third time, so feel free to stop by for your
Rotarian needs.
Chuck
• The New Brighton/Mounds View Chamber of Commerce has mailed the initiations for
the 1996 Business of the Year Luncheon. Mayor Norm Coleman will be the featured
speaker. The luncheon is on June 10, 11:45 at the New Brighton Family Service Center.
The Business of the Year award will be presented with a joint proclamation from the
Mayor of New Brighton and Mounds View. In addition there are three other awards. A
Mounds View business has won an award this year. I put a registration form near your
boxes if you are interested in attending.
♦ Jennifer and I attended a forum hosted by the Federal Reserve.Bank regarding Affordable
Housing and Economic Development on Wed morning. We came back with a few new
ideas and contacts but the programs were mostly geared toward inner-city issues. I did
meet Patricia Anderson who works for the Development Corporation for Children. She
may be working with the V.B.Digs group to help them secure grant funds for the Bel-Rae
Project. I will be meeting with V.B. Digs and Patricia Andersen next week regarding
revenue sources and operating expense projections.
• I sent a counter proposal to Everest regarding their most recent Building N proposal.
Everest responded that they can not accept our counter offer. We will continue to
negotiate a reasonable pay-as-you-go agreement. If you are interested in any of the
details please call me. Otherwise, we are not prepared to present Everest's offer to the
EDA for consideration at this time.
• Jennifer made an offer of$50,000 to HUD for the house on Silver Lake Road. They
seemed disappointed in our offer but we have not received a formal response yet.
Cathy
• Last Friday, I attended the League's Improving Community Life committee meeting.
The group's main goal is to develop and implement programs that will benefit
communities. There were a lot of really good ideas brought forth by committee members
(most of whom are Councilmembers) and some projects already put into effect. In many
cases, community and government interaction and cooperation has had markedly positive
results.
