to businesses.
* Staff worked with staff from Sunnyside School to specially target information of the
traveling playground, specifically designed to serve those youth living in manufactured
home parks and apartment complexes that are geographically distant from traditional
playground sites. Flyers were made and the schools handed them to persons that they
know live in the areas of the City targeted. We are very greatful for the worked that
Sunnyside School Social Worker Peggy Cardenas did to ensure that the children received
the information.
* Six playground leaders attended a Statewide Summer Playground Leaders Conference in
Chanhassen this week. This is an annual event that provides networking opportunity,
general speakers and informational sessions to spread the wealth of information regarding
youth at play, youth at risk, youth benefits of recreation and leisure and providing an
atmosphere where children can gain the"assets"that have been identified for success.
* Two Eagle Scout candidates have requested projects in the parks. One will be replacing
the timber border at Hillview playground. Another will be chipping all the trees at Silver
View and City Hall Park.
FINANCE
• Dorothy is handling utility adjustments, phone calls and month-end reports.
• Kitty is processing payroll and accounts payable. She will be preparing 1997 budget
information next week.
• The Department Heads received month-end financial statements for May, 1996 along with
the final 1995 year-end statements. That is a sure sign that the budget process for 1997 is
starting.
• I will be going on vacation from June 6-17. Hopefully, I will return refreshed and ready to
help the new Finance Director. Our department is anxiously awaiting the results of the
hiring process. We hope Chuck, Lynnette, Dwan and Dawn's friend, "Mac" MacBride
(Finance Director at St. Louis Park)will select the best Director for the City.
• The Finance Department is getting very tired of sending their best wishes to employees
who are leaving the employment of the City for either a job change or lifestyle change. So,
we begrudgingly wish Michele the very best with her future plans. There are many of us
"green"with envy. Michele, take good care of yourself on this wonderful adventure and
go for your dreams!
Mary T.
