RESOLUTION NO. 8681 <br /> <br />CITY OF MOUNDS VIEW <br />COUNTY OF RAMSEY <br />STATE OF MINNESOTA <br /> <br />RESOLUTION APPROVING A SPECIAL ELECTION FOR A VACANT SEAT <br />ON THE CITY COUNCIL AND <br />APPROVING A SPECIAL ELECTION CALENDAR <br /> <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City held an election on November 8, 2016, for Mayor and City Council; <br />and, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, current Councilmember Carol Mueller ran for Mayor and won the seat in the <br />election; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, this will cause a vacancy for her current City Councilmember seat with a <br />term expiration date of December 31, 2018; and, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, in accordance with §4.05, subd. 1 of the City Charter, when a vacancy in an <br />elected office of the City occurs with 365 days or more remaining in the term of the vacated <br />office, there shall be a special election of the unexpired term of the office vacated; and, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Special Election will occur on Tuesday, March 7, 2017 with polls open <br />from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., and all 4 voting precincts will be located in the Banquet Center <br />located at the Mounds View Community Center; and, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Ramsey County Elections will be managing this Special Election in <br />accordance with the 2017-2020 contract; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Mounds View City Council approves the attached Special Elections <br />calendar drafted by the Ramsey County Elections office. <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Mounds View Council orders a <br />Special Election on Tuesday, March 7, 2017, for a vacated City Councilmember seat with a <br />term expiration date of December 31, 2018. <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Mounds View City <br />Council authorizes Ramsey County to manage the March 7, 2017, Special Election and <br />approves the attached Special Elections Calendar. <br /> <br />Adopted this 12th day of December 2016. <br /> <br /> <br /> _______________________________ <br /> Joe Flaherty, Mayor <br />ATTEST: <br /> <br /> _______________________________ <br />James Ericson, City Administrator <br /> <br />(seal)
