Mounds View City Council July 27, 2015
Regular Meeting Page 7

City Administrator Ericson asked if the Council was interested in considering the expansion of 1
the duties of the Business Development Coordinator. He reported that taking this position from 2
three-fourths time to full-time would cost the City an additional $23,000. He stated that because 3
TIF District No. 2 was retiring at the end of the year, the City would have a $37,000 shortfall. 4
He indicated the City could address this by increasing the general levy in order to cover the costs 5
of the EDA. Another option would be to consider a separate EDA levy. He requested direction 6
from the Council on how to proceed. 7
8
Council Member Gunn was in favor of supporting additional economic activities in the City. She 9
supported the Council further discussing a possible EDA levy. 10
11
Council Member Mueller did not understand why TIF District No. 5 was not bringing in enough 12
money to support economic development activities in the City. City Administrator Ericson 13
reported the City was limited in the amount of increment that was received from TIF District No. 14
5, which was 5% and 95% went back to Medtronic. He anticipated that the TIF District would 15
conclude sooner rather than later. 16
17
Council Member Mueller supported the City taking some action in order to ensure future 18
economic growth was possible. 19
20
Council Member Hull and Council Member Meehlhause were interested in discussing an EDA 21
levy. 22
23
Mayor Flaherty did not want to see the levy reduction fund depleted and for this matter, he 24
supported another tool that could assist the City in funding economic activities. He was in favor 25
of the Council further discussing an EDA levy. 26
27
Council Member Gunn encouraged all Mounds View residents to participate in National Night 28
Out on Tuesday, August 4th. 29
30
C.
