Item No: 7F <br />Meeting Date: July 14, 2014 <br />Type of Business: Council Business <br />Administrator Review: ____ <br /> <br />City of Mounds View Staff Report <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />To: Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />From: Don Peterson, Public Works Supervisor <br />Item Title/Subject: Resolution Approving the Purchase of a 2015 Service Truck for the <br />Water Division of Public Works <br /> <br />Background/Discussion: <br />As part of the Public Works Department’s maintenance program, service trucks are purchased to <br />perform the needed maintenance and inspections required throughout the City. The Water Division <br />currently uses a 2002 Ford F250 truck with a utility box. This truck is used for making repairs in the well <br />buildings, fire hydrants, water gate valves, water meters and water main breaks, Gopher State One <br />locates, water meter readings and many more jobs in the water department. This vehicle is budgeted to <br />be replaced in 2014. <br /> <br />Discussion: <br />Staff has received a quote off the State of Minnesota Cooperative Purchasing Venture for a new 2015 <br />F350 4x2 Super Cab with an 8’ box for a cost of $27,245.00 from Midway Ford of Roseville MN. <br /> <br />In addition to the Cab and chassis staff has received a quote off the State Of Minnesota Cooperative <br />Purchasing Venture from Crysteel Truck and Equipment from Fridley MN, for a new service body and V- <br />Mac Compressor. <br />1) Utility Box with options $25,444.32 <br />2) V-Mac VR70 $10,425.00 <br />3) Trade in of 8” box -$700.00 <br />4) Total for service body <br />And V-Mac VR70 $34,989.32 <br /> <br />Total cost of the new service truck including the service body and V-Mac compressor is $62,234.32 not <br />including any tax or license fees. Staff has not received a quote for a trade-in of unit #706. Since two <br />other vehicles will be auctioned later this year, staff recommends that unit #706 be sold at auction as <br />well. With the proceeds of the sale going to offset any costs with the purchase of the new service truck. <br />Funds to purchase the new service truck are in the 2014 budget, Water Infrastructure & Equipment <br />Maintenance account, 700-4823-7030, of $72,000.00. <br /> <br />Recommendation: <br />Staff recommends the purchase of a 2015 F350 super cab and chassis off State Of Minnesota <br />Cooperative Purchasing Venture from Roseville Midway Ford of Roseville MN for a cost of $27,245.00, <br />not including the sales tax or license fees. Staff also recommends approving the purchase of the service <br />body and options along with a VMac under the hood air compressor from Cysteel Equipment of Fridley <br />at the cost of $34,989.32, and allow for the trade-in of the 8’ box for $700.00 for total the cost of <br />$62,234.32 not including sales tax. Staff is also recommending that the Council approve placing unit <br />#706 on auction in order to receive a higher trade-in value and use those dollars to offset the final cost of <br />the new truck. Staff is also recommending a 5% contingency in the amount of $3,111.71 for any <br />unforeseen expenditures.
