• May provide plan review services for county and state agencies on an as-needed <br />basis. <br /> <br />Fire Marshal <br />• Conducts plan review on new construction. <br />• Performs or supervises annual site inspections on existing commercial, <br />industrial, multi-occupancy residential for fire code compliance. <br />• Inspects or supervises inspections of new businesses and industrial operations <br />when changes of occupancy occur in a building. <br />• Conducts fire prevention education as time permits to ensure public and building <br />owner awareness about fire safety and conformance with fire safety codes. <br />• Conducts post fire incident investigations and inspection of fire calls and alarms <br />to determine cause and applicable safety measures. <br />• Conducts post-fire inspection to determine structural integrity. <br />• Follow up on false alarm calls in an effort to prevent future calls. <br /> <br />Fire Fighting <br />• Responds to fire calls <br />• Responds to emergency medical calls <br />• Conducts post fire incident investigations and inspection of fire calls and alarms <br />to determine cause and applicable safety measures. <br />• Conducts post-fire inspection to determine structural integrity. <br />• Follow up on false alarm calls in an effort to prevent future calls. <br /> <br /> <br />PERIPHERAL DUTIES <br />• Informs the Community Development Director of any inspection related activities <br />which require immediate attention or action. <br />• Consults with the City Attorney as required to review and ensure assure legal <br />requirements are being met in all building, housing, and fire code activities, or to <br />initiate legal action to ensure code compliance. <br />• Continually reviews existing code and ordinances for consistency and ease of <br />enforcement and interpretation and recommends modifications on a local, state <br />and national level. <br />• Attends meetings as assigned or as requested when matters relate to <br />responsibilities assigned. <br />• Assumes other responsibilities as apparent or as delegated. <br /> <br />MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS <br />Education and Experience: <br />(A) Graduation from a high school or GED equivalent supplemented by two years of <br />related technical instruction in building technology, construction management, <br />mechanical, electrical, plumbing or building construction. <br />(B) Two (2) years of experience in general construction or related field. <br />(C) State Certification as a Building Official <br />(D) Two (2) years of post-secondary education with course work in fire science and <br />/or two (2) years experience in the fire prevention field. <br />(E) Certification equivalent to Minnesota State Fire Service Certification of Fire <br />Inspector II <br />(F) Certification as a Firefighter I, First Responder and member of the Spring Lake <br />Park, Blaine, Mounds View Fire Department.
