For review, the Ramsey County
Traffic Safety Initiative is a collaborative effort among law
enforcement agencies in Ramsey County, as well as the
Minnesota State Patrol, to reduce traffic crashes and deaths
caused by impaired driving. Numerous officers from these
various agencies conduct high saturation patrols on scheduled evenings throughout various
targeted areas in Ramsey County to enforce impaired driving laws, as well as all traffic laws.
As a whole, the pilot year was a great success!

The Department of Public Safety’s, Office of Traffic Safety is very excited about our results
and is using our organizational model as a template for other counties in the state.

The last quarter for the year was hampered with poor weather conditions on Friday &
Saturday nights so some of the 4th Quarter numbers were down.

Below are some yearly Safe & Sober totals for the Mounds View Police Department:

Vehicles stopped 443
Charges Issued 153
People Arrested 26
DWI 12
Driving w/o Valid License 14
Equipment Violations 6
Other Violations 22

While conducting surveys of seat belt use, it was calculated that seat belt use in Mounds
View had a compliance rate of approximately 92%.

Through these efforts, we hope to further reduce impaired driving and stress the importance
for the public to plan a safe and sober ride while on the roadways.
