Sv C CF
EDGEwooD STEVE NOVAK, ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL
•
O MIDDLE 5100 NORTH EDGEWOOD DRIVE MOUNDS VIEW, MN 55112
4110>e
L E P (612)784-2010
SCHOOL fax: (612)639-6253
March 30, 1994
Mr. Emil Brandt
Transportation Coordinator
Mears Park Centre
230 E. 5th St.
St. Paul, MN 55101
Dear Mr. Brandt,
I am writing to express my support for the Mounds View City Council's proposal
to construct an overpass crossing Highway 10 at Long Lake Road in Mounds View.
• As principal of Edgewood Middle School, student safety is of utmost importance.
Edgewood is located south of Highway 10 and a portion of our attendance area is north
of Highway 10. Although bussing is provided for the day and after school program,
many of our students choose to walk or ride their bikes to and from school. We also
offer optional early morning activities which require students to find their own
transportation.
Edgewood houses the only pool for public use in the community. It is heavily
scheduled for lessons and recreational swim on weekends and evenings which increases
the likelihood of students crossing Highway 10 during heavy traffic periods and after
dark.
The construction of an overpass for pedestrian use would be an excellent means
of addressing the safety needs of our youth. I hope the Transportation Advisory Board
will give this proposal serious consideration.
Sincerely, 44614./LL'
Penny Yb ward
• Principal
MOUNDS VIEW PUBLIC SCHOOLS • DISTRICT 621
EQUAL OPPORTUNITY FOR EDUCATION AND EMPLOYMENT
