as to how important something is would be exercised, but in general I think it could prove helpful to
all in adding to policy understanding for the City.
Item 7 - Resolution regarding Youth Initiative Grant Agreement: This past Thursday Mary
Saarion and I met with the Department of Children, Families & Learning regarding the grant
requirements that come with the Bel Rae project. One requirement is that the pass a resolution
approving the grant agreement. I will talk with you more on Monday about this and will likely have
the resolution and grant agreement before the Council at the June 9 or June 23 meeting.
Item 8-Liveable Communities Grant Application:Pam and I will be attending a workshop Friday
that is required if the City were to decide to apply for a Liveable Communities grant. The application
is enclosed and fairly well outlines what it can be used for. Staff's thoughts are that the ring
road/ITighway 10 corridor could use that kind of assistance. We would be interested in the Council's
thoughts on this.
Item 9 - Bel Rae Update: I will be trying to give you updates on the project status as we go on
through the summer. We now have better demolition bids and I can share those on Monday. The
dance flooring appears to be a problem as to saving the floor as it is. I would like the Council's
thoughts on saving pieces of the actual floor for souvenirs or raffles or something like that.
. Item 10 - Council/Employee Appreciation Outing: Once or twice a year we have appreciation
outing for employees and Council. We would like your feedback on an evening golf outing at the
Bridges this month. Funds are budgeted for this and can be expended for this purpose by law when i
the Council finds it in the public interest to do so. Sometimes these things are a little awkward where
concerns develop over what is appropriate, so what I am proposing is to set aside tee times for
employees and Council members and their families, with food at the club house afterwards. John
Hammerschmidt will make a budget out for this. In the past, this has been used as an opportunity to
recognize various employees as well.
Duane may not be at the meeting Monday evening. There is a Ramsey County meeting regarding the
placement of a jail in our district somewhere and he plans on attending that meeting. Otherwise, we
should have a good meeting. See you then and have a nice weekend.
