As outlined in Chapter 701.03, subd. 15 of the Municipal Code, kennel
licenses are required only for dogs. However, the Zoning Code defines kennel licenses to
include dogs and cats.
If the City chooses to change the licensing section of the code to be consistent with the zoning
definition, the number of animals which constitute a kennel licenses must be defined. Currently
a residential kennel license is required for more than two dogs but not more than four dogs. A
commercial kennel license is required for more than four dogs.
0 Listed below are some cities which require cat kennel licenses. I have included the number of
animals which require a license.
Apply Valley- More than three cats.
Bloomington -More than four dogs or cats or any combination.
Brooklyn Center-Three or more dogs or four or more cats. Brooklyn Center limits the number
of years this application is renewable to three years.
Coon Rapids - Two or more dogs, cats or any combination.
Crystal- Three or more animals.
Maplewood -More than two cats.
Richfield -More than two dogs or two cats.
