MANAGEMENT MEETING MINUTES
Tuesday, September 9, 1997, 10:00 AM IN EQ
R 0 N
•
L Call to Order
ONLY
Meeting was called to order at 10:00 a.m. Present: Whiting, Kessel, Saarion,
Hammerschmidt, Bennett, Zikmund, Ramacher, Sanchez. Absent: Ericson and Ulrich
II. September 2 minutes were approved.
III. Department Reports- Saarion reported that Bruce Wilson from the Pinewood School
PTA contacted her for help with the repairs and maintenance of the Pinewood playground. Staff
recommended that Wilson write a letter to council listing estimated hours and any costs for
assistance for budget consideration. Saarion stated that Parks and Rec could only offer
temporary help. She reported that the Chamber of Commerce's Fall Gala is September 18 with
Mayor McCarty as the MC. The City will donate t-shirts, sweat shirts and maybe a gift
certificate for a silent auction. Saarion and Bennett will staff the September 15 Special Work
Session, regarding phase II of the Community Center. Kessel requested discussing accounting
software and the 1998 budget at the September 29 Special Work Session. Whiting will be
meeting with the public works employees on September 25 regarding their collective bargaining
unit contract. Zikmund reported on the next MAC Methods Committee meeting in reference to
their fire truck purchase and the MAC wanting to mandate free fire department services
protection. Whiting asked for a written report from Zikmund on the MAC Committee meeting.
• The Fire Department responded to a fire at the Correction Facility in Blaine, the estimated
damage to the facility is $2 million. Hammerschmidt received a complaint from an EPA official
who had water tested that runs through the golf course that showed high in phosphate and
nitrogen. He took water samples himself from a judicial ditch(stream before it leads to the golf
course)that had the same results, indicating that the source is not coming from the golf course.
He met with the EPA official wanting to file a report with the EPA and asked that they run their
test over and take the samples of water which start before the golf course. Ramacher and
Zikmund discussed the options of using a speed radar trailer with attachments that print out
speeding reports. Zikmund encouraged department heads to check with employees in their
departments that would like to be volunteer fire fighters.
W. Unfinished Business -Whiting reported that Arnott will be meeting with Saarion and
Man'Johnson for training and Arnott would like to sit in on a Management Meeting. Whiting
asked department heads for any ideas of where to cut dollars in the budget. Hammerschmidt
asked that we take a look at services that are being contracted out and that maybe employees
would do work at half the cost on their own time. Some discussion recognized potential
problems with that, but it could be looked into. Whiting asked each department head to come up
with a 3% cut in their budgets.
V. Adjournment- There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 11:45 a.m.
Next meeting is Tuesday, September 23.
•
Respectfully submitted,
Tracy Sanchez, Recording Secretary
