I'm happy to report that all of computers survived the lightning <br /> storms of the past week. <br /> Tim R. <br /> PUBLIC WORKS <br /> Last week on Thursday staff was filling a swimming pool on Silver Lake Road, <br /> when a bus ran over the fire hose, causing a split in the hydrant lead from the <br /> water main. This type of break happens when, in effect water is shut off and <br /> turned on very fast. The pressure that was produced by the stoppage of flow by <br /> the bus tires, and the sudden release of flow exceeded the capacity of the pipe. As <br /> a result, the city had to repair the hydrant lead, which involved closure of a major <br /> street in town for one day, lost labor on pending projects, and repair of the street. <br /> For this reason the Public Works staff will no longer fill swimming pools. The past <br /> policy was, a fee of $ 25 plus the amount of water used, would be charged to the <br /> resident, and the city would fill the pool.
