If any Councilmember wishes to place an item on the August 1st Work Session,
please let me know as soon as possible.
I spoke with a representative of the Metropolitan Airports Commission today regarding
some of the City's concerns regarding the Anoka County-Blaine Airport. There will be
a meeting of MAC and city officials (Blaine, Circle Pines, Lexington, Coon Rapids and
others) on August 3rd at 1:30 p.m.
Samantha
Airport Drive/County Road J intersection
On Tuesday, 7/12, Jim Hess and I met with Dan Soler, Engineer from Ramsey
County, and Chuck Lenthy, Engineer from the City of Blaine, about adding streetlights
at the northwest corner and the southeast corner of this intersection. Representatives
from MNDot and Anoka County were unable to attend. According to Mr. Lenthy,
Anoka County is going to do another traffic study (sometime in August) to determine
if traffic lights are needed at this intersection. If traffic lights are added, streetlights
usually accompany them. The City of Blaine would rather wait until this happens,
which could take one year to whenever the traffic counts reaches the magic number.
In the meantime, I have met with NSP at the location and they have indicated a light
could be installed at the southeast corner for no charge. However, this is a wooden
pole installation which is not as aesthetically pleasing as the metal poles the state
uses. Also, there may be regulations that require a breakaway pole be used. MNDot
thought they could contribute a pole or two to the project and are currently searching
for some that are available. I will keep you posted on the progress of this installation.
5 Year Goal Plan
The 5 year goal plan is complete and is scheduled for delivery the last weekend in
July. Gary Stevenson has enlisted a group of football players, through the Irondale
Booster Club, to make the delivery.
Computer Needs Assessment
A representative from All Systems Go met with me on Wednesday, 7/20, to discuss
the City's current computer situation and where we wanted to go in the future. He
surveyed the premises and will come up with a rough cost estimate in the next couple
of days for the work that is proposed.
Tim C.
