UNAPPROVED <br /> 1 Mounds View City Council Page Fourteen <br /> 2 Regular Meeting July 25, 1994 <br /> 3 <br /> 4 <br /> 5 Amundson stated he has been involved in scouting for 8 years and has never had den leaders stated that <br /> 6 they needed access for a place in holding their meetings. Not interested in 40 additonal parking spaces <br /> 7 across from his driveway which is a dead end and has had to calll the police oto have them patrol that <br /> 8 area and he stated that he told Councilmember Trude about lighting and about access to other parks. <br /> 9 Asked that something be done about pathways and sidewalks to the other parks. <br /> 10 <br /> 11 Councilmember Trude asked how other park land became available in the City. <br /> 12 <br /> 13 Saarion reported that manyh of the parks were acquired through tax forfeiture and the only park purchased <br /> 14 outright was Silver View Park. <br /> 15 <br /> 16 Saarion gave the background on how the other parks in Mounds View were acquired. Many <br /> 17 corrections had to be completed before projects were completed in these parks. <br /> 18 <br /> 19 Councilmember Trude stated that two parcels from Mr. Belisle would be purchased and another lot <br /> 20 on County Road H2. <br /> 21 <br /> 22 Mayor Linke stated that there is part of a ditch that is also park land. Saarion explained that Knollwood <br /> 23 Park is undevelopable land. <br /> 24 <br /> 25 Saarion explained that the southern part of the City has.no ballfields for use and that Mounds View <br /> 26 does not get permission to use other community athletic facilities for youth. Saarion stated that the <br /> 27 parks are used in the summer from 9:00 a.m. until 3:30 from June to July. Tennis lessons and <br /> 28 baseball leagues, rollerblade leagues, volleyball leagues and other programs developed for <br /> 29 children. 100 children bussed to Lakeside Prk for safety camp. 60 tems of youth 8 ball, T ball <br /> 30 and softball, skating programs in the winter and building requests can't be handled. <br /> 31 <br /> 32 Requests for use never quits and people are turned down on a daily basis. Does not count people that <br /> 33 drop by. Daycare providers that have outings. Parks are used in Mounds View. One thing that in all <br /> 34 surveys is that Mounds View participation and park use is higher than the average suburban community. <br /> 35 <br /> 36 Two scout groups housed out of Pinewood couldn't find a date or time to use buildings. Requests coming <br /> 37 in already for use of space at Random. <br /> 38 <br /> 39 Gary Mann, 3009 Woodale Drive, stated major concern is in very secluded dead end area and the concern <br /> 40 is traffic in the neighborhood. Mr. Mann asked about the area west of the proposed property is considered <br /> 41 by the federal government as one of the hazardous waste sites is the pole yard <br /> 42 and developing land for kids to use and abutting it to a hazardous waste area. Mr. Maim recalled that it is <br /> 43 one of the top ten hazardous waste areas. Useage of the land for youngsters. <br /> 44 <br /> 45 Mayor Linke stated that the land in question is not part of that area. Land is in Fridley and a way away <br /> 46 from that site. Property line starts there. <br />
