Light at County Road J and Airport Drive intersection
The cable is buried and the concrete footing poured. Next week, after the concrete
has had a chance to cure, the light standard is expected to be installed.
Tim C.
Business Retention:
• This week I met with Dairy Quality Control. They are a non profit laboratory
facility that works with dairy farmers to monitor the milk productions. They
have been in Mounds View since 1989 and plan to be here at least for another
5 years. The CEO, Paul Neirman, was very nice but did feel that the water
quality in Mounds View could be improved. For their testing they need very
clean, soft water. Rosemary Goff attended this meeting with myself and the
interviewer.
• I also met with Charlie Hall at the Mermaid. The interview went well and he
just reiterated the need for the City to consider the effect on businesses when
they propose tax increases and additional fees.
• I met with Tony Jambor of the Bel Rae Ballroom. He is a very colorful man with
some really good ideas. He has tried to set up a program with the School
District to have the kids use the ballroom for dance lessons as an alternative to
traditional physical education classes. He feels that young children are missing
the benefits of dancing such as increasing coordination, concentration,
teamwork and moral. Samantha and I will discuss this idea with the local
schools.
Outreach:
• The Star City Conference was well attended but most importantly I gained some
valuable information regarding structuring revolving loan funds. This is an area I
will further pursue. In addition, I learned that Cities should continuously apply
for grants from the Economic Recovery Fund and it also helps to get state
representative support at the front end rather than wait until you are approved
to continue with part two of the application. I am still pursuing the grant for
Wolf & Associates and will also look for opportunities with other local
manufacturing companies.
• I made a presentation to Western Bank Board of Directors and Advisory Group
this week. The presentation included an outline of the City's economic
development goals and actions steps and ways the bank can be a partner in
implementing the grant and loan programs for business and home loans. They
were very receptive and are willing to assist the City in any way they can.
Cathy
