PARKS, RECREATION AND FORESTRY
PARKS:
* The carpenter doing work at Hillview and Groveland Park buildings found that
the floor joists and exterior siding is rotting because of moisture being trapped
along and underneath the buildings. The floor insulation is wringing wet with
moisture. As a result, preventative measures are being taken to prevent further
decay. The landscaping along the buildings has been removed, with the ground
being sloped away from the buildings. Estimates are being received for putting
poly on the ground of the crawl space and replacing siding at Groveland Park
buildings on two sides that are completely rotted away at the bottom. A
ventilation panel will be installed so that the crawl space can remain ventilated
and hopefully dry during summer months. An additional furnace run will be
installed under the floor in the crawl space to keep the water pipes from
freezing. The carpenter suggested that since eave overhangs are not on the
buildings, rain gutters should be installed to keep water away from the
buildings.
It is lucky that this problem has been identified. We will need to look at the
condition of Woodcrest Park building to make sure that that too is taken care
of in the occasion that the floor joists are rotting away.
So if anyone asks you why the landscaping was removed at Hillview and
Groveland Park buildings, that is the answer.
* The grass is still growing, the crew is still mowing. . .
When in a time pinch the crew has been doing "spot" mowing, giving the
high grass areas, and playing fields priority over open grasslands.
RECREATION:
* In the next two weeks Sharie is teaching four classes of "I'm In Charge" with 2
classes at Sunnyside and 2 classes at Pinewood School. This is a very popular
class - one that parents obviously see as important for their children.
* We have a new student intern with us for 3 months. Dana Willis is a student at
Brigham Young University, Utah, majoring in Parks and Recreation
Administration.
