of Mounds View, New Brighton, Fridley and Spring Lake Park to discuss the final
numbers and to determine how the project will move forward. Please mark your
alendars recognizing that the time may change. If it does, I will let you know well in
advance!
Wolf and Associates
We will be meeting with Wolf and Associates soon to discuss the details of the sale of
the land. However, in the interim, I have given them permission to store some of their
equipment on the property. They have provided the City with an insurance policy
naming us as an additional insured. We hope to bring a proposed purchase
agreement to the Council within the next 2-3 weeks.
Samantha
Information Superhighway
I attended a free informational seminar on Thursday morning entitled "Planning our
Trip on the Information Superhighway". It was hosted by the University of Minnesota
Academic Affairs/Computer and Information Technologies Office. The information
presented has been available in the past, but it certainly confirmed everything that's
been said about the future importance of being able to access city information from
off-site locations to conduct city business. Some examples cited include scheduling
building inspections, registering for recreation activities, retrieving notification and
information on infrastructure schedules such as street repairs, paying administrative
offenses and utility bills, and reviewing council agendas, resolutions, ordinances and
the municipal code.
One of the major barriers to implementing this technology is cost. To help defray
some of these costs, the Intergovernmental Information Systems Advisory Council
awards grants to innovative, beneficial ideas. One idea that may work for us is going
to a paperless agenda by making laptop computers and modems available to City
Council members which would allow access to the file server.
This is an exciting time in the history of technology. There are numerous
opportunities to make it easier and more efficient for citizens to conduct business with
all organizations including government. Staff will continue to strive to make it
possible for the City of Mounds View to obtain some of these technologies for the
benefit of the residents and all customers of the City.
Tim C.
