• Samantha, Paul and I met with John Purves of Wolf & Associates to discuss the
preliminary terms for the sale of the water tower property. John felt
comfortable with the price range and requirement to provide a buffer from the
manufactured home park with dense plantings. They will negotiate the specific
lease agreement when they expand next spring. John was very thankful to the
City for their assistance and was happy that the Council agreed to the full sale
of the property.
Outreach:
• The Multi-Tech Systems tour was very well attended by Suburban Chamber of
Commerce members and City Representatives. The tour was fascinating. I
talked to several people after the tour and they were all very impressed. Most
of the comments noted the overwhelming happiness of employees in a
production plant setting. I spoke to Del Palacheck, Production Manager who
has been with the company since its infancy, and he graciously thanked the
City of Mounds View for their assistance in the expansion. I would like to get
more businesses to host Suburban Chamber Meetings because it brings in
business people from other areas.
• I spoke to the Spring Lake Park-Blaine Rotary at the request of Pastor Stan Satre
this week. I gave the group an overview of the economic development goals
and action steps and also outlined the demographic makeup of the community.
I was surprised that not all of the participants from the Rotary were aware of
Mounds View's boundaries. One suggestion from the group was to bring in
Spring Lake Park on the Highway 10 Corridor redevelopment. This may not be
a bad idea and we maybe able to get a Board of Innovation Grant for this
cooperative effort. I will have the EDC review this possibility.
New Developments:
• Dynex Industries has approached the City regarding a potential expansion of
their facility. They would like some assistance and this may be a good
company to apply for a State Economic Recovery Grant to start the revolving
loan fund or the EDA may want to begin the fund with TIF dollars. Dynex is in
the preliminary stages but would like to begin building next spring. I will be
gathering information to present to the EDC regarding the structure of a
revolving loan fund with the idea to have the item presented to the EDA in Jan-
Feb of 1995.
• I will be meeting with some brokers and other cities who have worked on hotel
projects to discuss the feasibility of a hotel in Mounds View. Over the past few
weeks I have received two preliminary proposals for hotel/conference center
developments in Mounds View. I will keep you posted as more information
becomes available.
Cathy
