Marketing Task Force:
• At the last marketing task force meeting the City of Mounds View's motto was
discussed. We came up with almost 20 and will be narrowing it down to a few
of the best for consideration by the EDA. This is just one element of a report
which will be presented to the EDA in first quarter 1995. At the next meeting
on January 12, 1995 the task force will discuss entrance/exit signs and banners
designating Mounds View's boundaries along Highway 10.
Educational Linkages with Local Businesses:
• I had a meeting with Jan Quick, Career Placement Specialist at Irondale High
School, to brainstorm on how the City and the School District can help in
initiating linkages between the local businesses and graduates from the school
who will be looking for career opportunities instead of higher education and/or
technical school. We will be choosing 10 companies which may have the
potential to provide entry level positions. The key is to provide a position that
has the possibility of advancement. We will try to gain commitment from these
companies to develop a pilot program whereby companies actively participate in
seeking high school graduates for positions.
Retention Meetings:
• I met with Mounds View Inn's Norb Yenish this week. They have been fairly
stable in Mounds View attracting mostly repeat visitors such as business
travelers and truckers. They have also been working on trying to get a blue
sign designating motels, gas stations and restaurants on I-35W. MnDot
contents that there is not enough space between existing signs to add such a
sign. I suggested that they call the State Representatives and put together a
meeting with the other businesses regarding this issue.
Cathy
