During this second quarter much planning went into the Festival
In the Park. The Festival Committee met on a regular basis to
plan our City-wide event. While the Festival occurred in the
third quarter, many hours of planning occurred in the second
quarter. It takes a lot of time, organization and coordination
to pull off such an event.
Softball leagues both youth and adult were organized during this
second quarter. Registrations, coaches trainings, managers
meetings, equipment distribution, practice and games schedules
were prepared. This is a major project, serving large numbers of
youth and adult participants.
Mounds View Community Theater began work recruiting production
staff positions, auditioning, organizing and making arrangements
for scripts and royalties, tickets, school usage, etc. Many
volunteers work behind the scenes for projects such as Mounds
View Community Theater and Festival .
The Garden Club, a group of residents interested in beautifying
the City met on a regular basis during the second quarter and
planned several plantings within the City. Members ordered
flowers and planted them. They are on a schedule of plant care.
A myriad of summer programs began in June and continue throughout
the summer. Traditional programs such as swimming lessons,
summer playground programs, safety camp, youth athletics, sport
clinics, and trips were planned, organized and implemented
throughout the second quarter.
The second quarter requires high levels of forestry activities.
This is the most advantageous time for tree planting. In
addition, Arbor Day activities take place during the months of
April and May. Many school and scout groups participate in City
and School cooperative ventures in Arbor Day tree planting
activities. Large trees were planted at City Hall and along Long
Lake Road. Other trees that had died due to disease or damage
were replaced throughout the City. Many trees were planted at
the Golf Course.
Park reservations including athletic field use permits, picnic
shelter reservations, picnic kit reservations, tournament
facility reservations, and other park facility requests are "bit-
time" during this second quarter. Family reunions, class
reunions, weddings, receptions, church picnics, and graduation
parties are the common events for which people reserve park
facilities.
