* Next week will be the last week for two other Parks workers including Joe Quick
who will be returning to college in Iowa, and Bill Urbanski who will be reporting to
teachers preparation days - starting another year of teaching in the White Bear
School system. Both workers have been excellent contributions to park
maintenance activities. We wish them a good year and hopes that they will return
to Parks work again next summer.
RECREATION
* Sharie chaperoned a successful extended trip to LaCrosse, MN. All enjoyed the
adventure and everything went according to plan.
* This week began Adult Fall Soft•- -. el - v • • - ' ough Thursday evenings.
In addition, there is a growing demand for bailfield use through Fall baseball
programs and Fall fastpitch programs, of which the City is facilitating two leagues
with ballfields. The ballfields continue to have high demand use now extending to
the end of October.
* Fall recreation programs are being finalized. Information for the City Newsletter is
due this week. It is expected that the Newsletter will be distributed to homes the
first week of September. Programs generally begin mid to end of September.
* Through the Community Oriented Policing Committee, a Community Halloween
Bonfire is being organized and planned as a family activity on October 31. More
information to be provided later.
FORESTRY
* The Forestry crew has continued to work at each park trimming trees and
landscaping. In addition, much time was spent at Silver View Park trimming the
parking lot island and surrounding trees.
* Chipping trees in preparation for Autumn and Winter months will begin after
necessary trimwork is completed.
GOLF COURSE
* Staff has met with several firms that program and sell cash register systems for
golf courses. Of particular interest is cash registers that are fast and easy to learn
and operate and yet provides information necessary for the auditors. I have called
many golf courses for references on their systems. Kitty, Brus and I have met with
several companies in search of the best system. The current system is too
undependable - having two crashes due to electrical failures, program software
glitches and slow transaction time. It is also too complicated a process. It is not
paid for, still under trial operations. We plan to return the system and look into
other options.
