group and organization representatives, fire department representatives, newspapers representatives, and various staff members met to plan an exciting program of activities for the summer "Festival". With such enthusiasm the Festival is sure to be a wonderful community event! Members of the Festival Committee will give an update to the City Council of ideas and activities during the January 23 City Council meeting. * I have been catching up on activities that occurred last week since I missed the majority of last work week due to Carl's mother's unexpected death. During last week we experienced the procedures of a living will, made decisions on life with support or death, organ donations, and the usual funeral and burial decisions. We hosted two families at our house, and made numerous trips to the-air-port—Now-CarFas-executor-must complete-the—neees-nary-activities hat that entails. Since this was our first parent death we have experienced many new things during last week's ordeal. Today, work seems a refuge from the rigors of last week. I wish to express heartfelt thanks to all of you who have been so concerned about our family, have sent cards and flowers, and provided verbal support. What a wonderful feeling it is to have so many wonderful and caring friends! * Mary attended a Volunteers Workshop this Thursday. The workshop's intent is to provide guidance in providing meaningful and beneficial volunteer activities for persons of the community so that they can made a difference in the community - and feel good about the service that they have offered. Since our department manages so many volunteers of the community, we hope to provide as much support and personal reward as possible to those who volunteer their service to Mounds View. * Sharie attended the second of three weekends of the FESTIVAL MANAGER'S program. Every time Sharie returns from the weekends she is full of ideas and excitement for the possibilities. She has been an influential factor in the enthusiastic group of Festival Committee members. There is one more weekend of class plus a dissertation for completion of the course - and certification. * Today I attended the meeting of the "Make a Difference" committee at Sunnyside School. We are meeting with the hope of coordinating activities and goals with the intent of supporting kids who are lacking support. This is a multi-faceted group of school and community support members. There is a segment of Sunnyside School kids that have been identified as lacking the "assets" that have been identified by "Search" studies and we hope that with collaborative efforts these assets can be acquired before the children reach Middle School - where it seems to almost be too late.
