this bridge (including the hopes that it will be a unique
structure that is special to Mounds View, is very attractive and
a type of focal point of the community) they strongly suggested
the engineering services that will provide flexibility to the
plan. The DESIGN/BUILD would be a boiler plate type of bridge
without any options for uniqueness. This requires the
contracting of an engineering firm for the project. They highly
suggested that the engineering services be bid to get the best
price. There are many firms available - they provided us with
firms that they believe are very reputable. Staff will be
preparing an RFP for pedestrian bridge engineering services.
This project should have input from the Hwy 10 committee and
others because it will be the first project along Hwy 10. The
type of light structures, the color of the bridge, the ramp
entrances, etc. should be chosen with the idea that they will
match other facilities along Hwy 10 in the future such as lights,
banners, color schemes, landscaping, etc. We certainly don't want
a hodge podge of stuff along Hwy 10 and this being a prominent
fixture, will be the most visible. We need to make sure that it
is attractive, functions well and that we can be proud of it.
CABLE TV:
Jerry Skelly Jr. prepared a grant proposal for additional
equipment that will assist with user friendly information
gathering by residents who have a telephone and CABLE TV. Once
we have all the necessary equipment, residents will be able to
use a menu-driven program to access information regarding
upcoming senior citizen trips for example - or water flushing
schedules, steps of trimming your trees, compost pile times and
dates, city hall meetings, pre-school program options, etc. It's
a great system which many cities already offer.
GOLF COURSE:
The new double sided sign is up at County Road J and Coral Sea
Street. Kurt said that he has noticed many more cars circling
the road taking a look at the golf course.
We have been working on the golf brochures and information
regarding leagues and fees. A mailing list of interested persons
has been prepared. Information will be sent to all inquiries.
Lesson information will follow after we have the golf instructor
on board.
Final information and course picture was sent to Golf Magazine
Digest. We are very anxious to get our hands on the magazine
because we are one of four new courses featured on the front
cover. The magazine is scheduled to be out the last part of
February.
Mary S.
