REQUEST FOR COUNCIL CONSIDERATION
STAFF REPORT
AGENDA SESSION DATE June 5, 1995
Agenda Section: 8 .
Report Number: 9 5 -13 6 4WS
Report Date: 5- 3 0- 9 5
DISPOSITION
Item Description: Discussion regarding water service repair surcharge.
Administrator's Review/Recommendation:
- No comments to supplement this report
- Comments attached.
Explanation/Summary (attach supplement s necessary.)
,SUMMARY;
At the May Council work session staff was requested to estimate the amount
of funds possibly required to repair residential services, should they
break or leak beyond the edge of the road. Staff is estimating, based on
three of these circumstances occurring per year, that the city would
require approximately $10,000 to repair these leaks. If a change of
responsibility of the service should take place, staff is recommending
that, only the residential services be covered by this change. Furthermore,
staff recommends that the sanitary sewer service responsibility remain
intact.
Given that the residents would receive additional service, the City may
wish to fund this from those receiving the benefits. To raise $10,000, it
might be possible to charge each resident served by the public water
system, $3.40 per year, or $ .85 per quarter.
Staff seeks Council direction regarding changing of the existing ordinance,
and any thoughts related to the above mentioned information.
Michael Ulrich, Director of Public Works
RECOMMENDATION;
