'Draft 3-13-95
Monument Entrance Sign
Concept
• In order to apprise travelers that they have entered the City of Mounds View,a large, professional
quality sign(brick or wood)would be situated on Highway 10. The sign would be placed in a
natural setting, potentially outside of Liberty Check Printers.
• The design could be based on concepts presented in 1990;using a Mounds View designer if at all
possible. A tie-in to the signage used at The Bridges Golf Course would be advisable to ensure
continuity.
• - Incorporate-the-new identity statement onto-the sign.
• Keep the sign in good repair at ail times with attractive plantings and proper night lighting.
Execution
• Designate funds for the development of the sign. In lieu of an appropriation, fundraising
events could be held and spearheaded by local community organizations, including the
Rotary,Garden Club,Boy and Girl Scouts, and businesses. Maintenance of the sign
would need to be evaluated by Public Works,Parks&Recreation and/or landowner.
• Economic Development Authority to designate a location for the sign. The Marketing
Task Force proposed in front of Liberty Check Printers in Mounds View Business Park.
Estimated Costs:
• It is estimated that the sign could cost approximately$5,000-$10,000.
Banners
Concept
• Colorful banners would inform travelers that they are in the main area of the City of Mounds
View. These"Welcome to Mounds View"banners would be hung on stop light poles in the
following locations: County Road H2,Long Lake Road,County Road I,and Silver Lake Road.
These durable banners would create visual excitement with a contemporary, vibrant look.
Execution
• Designate funds needed to purchase and install the banners or coordinate fundraising
activities initiated to pay for the banners.
• Approve banner program with MnDot.
• Work with Public Works,Fire Department and/or MnDot to hang and maintain the
banners.
• Evaluate purchasing of special event and holiday banners.
10
