( PARKS, RECREATION AND FORESTRY
PARKS:
* Steve and Jeff have been attending classes this entire week in Traffic
Control and Water School.
* Mary met with the Park Patrol volunteers last Saturday. They are a great
bunch of people who are interested in giving back to the community by way
of providing a safety an customer service to park participants. We
reviewed the Park Ordinances, reviewed the mission and goals of the Park
Patrol and discussed ways that they can operate most effectively. We will
be meeting again Saturday, May 6 at which time I will have prepared for
them all information, maps, shirts, communications means, first aid supplies,
keys and other necessities that will assist them in their activities.
* The interview committee for design, engineering and inspection services for
the pedestrian bridge met again Monday, April 3 to share references which
had been received by the finalist firms. We are all feeling a little "stuck" in
the process because each of the firms are reputable and have good
references. The ISTEA program is new and therefore none have great
experience with this sort of project. We will proceed to ask for refined cost
estimates to reflect more defined expectations.
RECREATION:
* Summer activities planning is underway to meet the deadline date for
May/June City Newsletter preparation.
* Portable Restroom bids have been received and will be analyzed for
recommendation for bid award.
* T-shirt, hat and jacket designs and orders have been prepared this week
including youth athletic shirts, summer playground shirts, Park Patrol shirts,
Park Maintenance and Summer Recreation Leader staff shirts, Coaches
NYSCA shirts, award shirts, volunteer shirts, etc. Each has a different
design, sizings, styles, etc and therefore it is a time consuming task.
However, t-shirts are a wonderful marketing tool because whenever it is
worn, it advertises the City of Mounds View. For this reason we are
concerned about getting the very best t-shirt design and quality that we can
feasibly provide.
