Mounds View City Council March 8, 2010 <br />Regular Meeting Page 7 <br /> <br /> 1 <br />Mayor Flaherty suggested staff bring the goals and priorities back to the Council quarterly to 2 <br />provide a time for reflection and comments. Council Member Stigney agreed it would be 3 <br />important to continue to address the goals and priorities throughout the year. The Council 4 <br />directed staff to bring forward a report in April reviewing the status of the Council’s goals and 5 <br />priorities. 6 <br /> 7 <br />MOTION/SECOND: Mueller/Gunn. To Waive the Reading and Adopt Resolution 7589, 8 <br />Adopting the City Council’s Identified Goals and Priorities for 2010, with staff providing 9 <br />quarterly reports. 10 <br /> 11 <br /> Ayes – 5 Nays – 0 Motion carried. 12 <br /> 13 <br />G. Resolution 7590, Approving a Construction Contract for the Mounds View 14 <br />Community Center Gymnasium and Event Center Wood Floor Refinishing 15 <br /> 16 <br />Director of Public Works DeBar explained the Mounds View Community Center gymnasium 17 <br />and Event Center (EC) have hardwood floors in need of refinishing. The proposed refinishing 18 <br />operation is a “buff and coat” operation. 19 <br /> 20 <br />Public Works Staff solicited quotes from hardwood floor contractors to perform this work and 21 <br />five quotes were submitted. The refinishing work is scheduled to occur on Thursday, March 25, 22 <br />2010 and Friday, March 26, 2010. Public Works Staff coordinated this time slot with the YMCA 23 <br />staff to accommodate the work and has spoken to Twin City Hardwood Flooring to confirm their 24 <br />quote and availability to perform the work on March 25-26, 2010. Twin City Hardwood Flooring 25 <br />has confirmed that the quote is correct and the timing fits into their workload schedule. Staff 26 <br />recommends that the City Council adopt Resolution 7590 which will authorize entering into a 27 <br />construction contract agreement with Twin City Hardwood Floor, Inc. of Andover, Minnesota, to 28 <br />refinish the hardwood floors in the gymnasium and Event Center at the Community Center. 29 <br /> 30 <br />Council Member Mueller questioned if the City has worked with the proposed contractor in the 31 <br />past and requested a reference letter. Director of Public Works DeBar noted staff has not worked 32 <br />with Twin City Hardwood Floor, Inc. He indicated he would review their references. 33 <br /> 34 <br />Mayor Flaherty asked if the refinishing would have a warranty of any type. Director of Public 35 <br />Works DeBar stated he would expect a one-year warranty on the polyurethane product used on 36 <br />the wood flooring. He would assure that this was covered in the construction contract agreement. 37 <br /> 38 <br />MOTION/SECOND: Mueller/Stigney. To Waive the Reading and Adopt Resolution 7590, 39 <br />Approving a Construction Contract, with a defined warranty, for the Mounds View Community 40 <br />Center Gymnasium and Event Center Wood Floor Refinishing to Twin City Hardwood Flooring, 41 <br />Inc. in an amount not to exceed $4,415. 42 <br /> 43 <br /> Ayes – 5 Nays – 0 Motion carried. 44 <br /> 45
