c. Parking requirements imposed by the City shall be constantly re- <br /> viewed and studied to insure supply is reflective of demand. <br /> d. Minimize parking lot access topublic streets to the functional <br /> minimum. <br /> Goal 5: Support the development of public transit and para-transit systems which will <br /> minimize the need for individual automobile travel . <br /> Policies: a. Sufficient mobility shall be promoted for all persons, giving special <br /> consideration and attention to those who must rely on modes of <br /> transportation other than the automobile. <br /> b. Adequate transit rider-conveniences,-such as bus shelters and free <br /> parking areas, shall be incorporated into activity centers and areas <br /> of high transit usage. <br /> c. Transit service shall be encouraged within a reasonable walking <br /> distance of every resident of the community. <br /> d. Additional transit service during off-peak hours to activity outside <br /> the community should be encouraged. <br /> e. The City will work with the Metropolitan Transit Commission to <br /> provide more and better transit service for the community and to <br /> provide increased ridership. <br /> f. Encourage MTC development of an intra-suburban transit plan. <br /> Goal 6: Ensure the provision of pedestrian and bicycle facilities which are consistent <br /> with the safe and convenient circulation needs of the pedestrian and the bicyclist. <br /> Policies: a. Establish a program of safe pedestrian and bicycle movement <br /> throughout the City. <br /> b.. Dependency on automobile oriented transportation will be reduced <br /> by introducing or improving pedestrian bicycle transit facilities. <br /> c. Pedestrian/bicycle corridors shall be considered on minor arterials <br /> and collectors to,ensure safe pedestrians travel . <br /> d . Safe and convenient pedestrian circulation shall promoted within <br /> and to and from activity centers, separated when feasible from <br /> vehicular circulation. <br /> 90 <br />
