City Hall Open House
Reminder that the Open House is scheduled for May 9th from 5-7 p.m.
Cruikshank's absence
Tim has been on vacation since Tuesday. He and Julie are brand new homeowners
and are using this time to make the move from the apartment to the new home in St.
Paul. Since his absence, the network crashed, the copier broke down just before the
agendas were to be run, the postage machine is on the fritz, there is a seam tearing
in the new carpet, the refrigerator was put in the wrong area and Paul and I had to
move it into the right room, Cathy's computer is torn apart and the heating system is.
making "funny noises". And, to top that off Carla's been out sick, Barb has been out
sick and Dennis called in sick. Who said people aren't indispensable?
Prosecutor Interviews
On Tuesday, Tim Ramacher, Tim Brennan and I interviewed three candidates for the
position of City Prosecutor; Tom Hughes of Hughes and Costello, Paul Ostrow of
Sweeney, Borer and Ostrow and Steve Tallen. The interview team will be
recommending that the Council appoint Tom Hughes as the City Prosecutor at the
April 11, 1994 Council meeting. Tom is currently the New Brighton prosecutor and
has handled Mounds View prosecutions in the past. Because Mark Karney's service
with the City terminates on March 31, 1994, I have asked Tom to assume our case
load beginning April 1st. His appointment as City Prosecutor is contingent upon
Council approval of his appointment. The Committee is also recommending that we
bring Tom on board under a $3,000/month retainer. The flat fee arrangement will very
likely result in a significant cost savings for the City, especially when we accelerate
our code enforcement activities.
PARKS:
Monday Steve attended traffic workshop which dealt with the importance
of record keeping and documentation, something that he could easily
transfer to parks work. Jeff put up the volleyball and tennis nets at
various parks, ready for the week that the children have off of school.
Tuesday Jeff and Steve completed the repair job at Lakeside Park,
straightening the retaining wall which had bowed with the rain runoff.
The intention was to level each of the ballfields, starting with Edgewood
#1. However, the ground was still too frozen and the weather during the
early week days was too cold. Hopefully Thursday will be warm enough
to get some of this work completed.
