sites based on the location of existing power poles, trees and branches, fencelines,
etc... After this study is complete, I would like to send each affected property owner a
notification of the proposed installation sites. I will make every effort to stay with the
desires of the Council streetlight plan and the wishes of the property owners affected.
I will keep you posted as to the progress of this process.
CITY HALL OPEN HOUSE
Due to the timing of the arrival of some of the office furniture and conference room
table and chairs, the City Hall Expansion open house has been rescheduled for 5:00
p.m. - 7:00 p.m., Monday, June 6, prior to the Council Work Session_. This
information will be included in the May/June newsletter.
Tim C.
Economic Development
After a very full week of orientation and a weekend of strategic planning, I am beginning to
hit the ground running. I'm in the process of preparing the economic development and
marketing plan for the City of Mounds View. I anticipate a draft plan to be complete.by the
end of this month with implementation soon there after.
I will be meeting with economic development departments of several metro area cities.
Cities with meetings confirmed include New Brighton, White Bear Lake, Roseville, Coon
Rapids and Blaine. In addition, I will be meeting with the Minnesota Department of Trade
and Economic Development and NSP regarding incentive and loan programs for businesses.
I believe reviewing what other areas are doing will give a good mix of ideas and suggestions
as well as develop relationships throughout the metro area. Also, I have set meetings with
local brokers and developers including Tim Nelson, Everest Development; Doug Watson,
Watson Investment; Sheri Timmons, Pastor Enterprises; and Jeff Hart, Kraus-Anderson
Realty Company. I attended the Economic Development Association of Minnesota's
(EDAM) monthly breakfast in Shoreview last week. This is an excellent networking group
of local developers and economic development professionals and I look forward to continuing
an active role in EDAM.
A press release on both the economic development coordinator position and the housing
intern position has been forwarded to all local media, north metro cities and regional
organizations in an effort to communicate to the region the importance of these positions to
the prosperity of the city. I anticipate an increased use of press releases, at least one a
month, to get the City of Mounds View's name in the forefront. Let me know if you have
any topics and I will prepare a press release.
Samantha, Don and I have been working with Jim O'Meara on pooling Mounds View's three
tax increment districts into one project area. This will allow more flexibility in the use of
funds for the entire Mounds View area rather than being restricted to the use of funds within
each district. We believe this will better serve both the citizens and businesses of Mounds
View. A public hearing has been posted for May 9, 1994 at 7:05 pm.
