At the May Council Work Session, Earl Netwal and Sarah Nelson of Community Resource Partnership gave a presentation regarding the Community Partners Program. It was recommended that the program be put on the May 9, 1994 Council Agenda for consideration. The Community Partners Program consists of a comprehensive written survey of Mounds View businesses followed by an interview with business representatives to discuss, in-person, business issues, concerns and future needs. City staff would have the opportunity, as time permits, to participate in any or all of the in-person interviews and review completed survey data. Also, the complete inventory of local businesses will be provided to the City for future use. It is anticipated that the program will generate an understanding of the local business community, its make-up, needs and concerns, allowing for the enhancement and economic prosperity of the City. • Some of the proven benefits identified by other Cities such as Blaine, New Hope, Brooklyn Center and Brooklyn Park, who have participated in the Program are as follows: • • identification of job opportunities • • identification of summer youth employment opportunities • identification of businesses having the potential and desire to expand • establishment of a pro-business communication vehicle with all community businesses • opportunities to address "Red Flag" needs and/or concerns • opportunities to educate the business community of available resources at the City, County and State levels. The 6-8 month program would begin upon the approval of the attached resolution at a total cost not to exceed $12,500.
