QUARTERLY REPORT
PAGE TWO
AUGUST 2, 1993
7 . Held turf sweeper demonstrations prior to final purchase.
8 . Cleared the left-over debris from the water tower project at
City Hall.
9 . Completed work on the disc golf course in time for the May
tournament event and Star of the North Games.
10. Mowing, mowing, and more mowing. This Spring and Summer
continue to be excellent for turf growth - plenty of rain.
The grass growth hasn't let up during this time - meaning
continual mowing.
11. Equipment repairs. The mowers are getting lots of daily use
and needless to say they have broken down a few times - -
some times requiring outside repairs to be done, and
sometimes our crew have been able to do the necessary
repairs. Unfortunately, the grass doesn't stop growing when
the mowers are down.
12 . Arrangements were made for the specifications and financial
end of purchasing a big trailer for hauling the mowers and
other equipment.
13 . Two Eagle Scout projects were supervised, one for the
improvements to City Hall VB Courts and one concluding the
park building interior painting.
14. Field grooming is a daily task, often grooming 10 - 13
fields each day in preparation of evening games and
activities.
15. Trimming of weeds with machine and later through chemical
application.
16. Turf work was unfortunately delayed longer than we had hoped
because of the weather. Chemical applications require dry,
calm circumstances and the weather simply did not cooperate.
Rather than waste money on possible washed out applications
during insufficient conditions and rather than risking the
chance of damage due to spillage from windy conditions, we
chose to wait for the appropriate conditions.
17. Again, the fields were so soft due to unusual amounts of
rain work. Work at Edgewood School baseball field
improvements and other park turf work including aeration,
chemical applications and fertilizing has been delayed for
fears of ripping up the existing turf with the machinery.
