NOT ON AGENDA
REQUEST FOR COUNCIL CONSIDERATION Agenda Sectior
STAFF REPORT Report Number: Not assign.
111170S
AGENDA SESSION DATE APRIL 5 . 19 9 3 Report Date: 4/5/9 3
DISPOSITION
Item Description: Rekeying of City buildings .
Administrator's Review/Recommendation:
- No comments to supplement this report
a
- Comments attached.
Explanation/Summary (attach supplement sheets as necessary.)
SUMMARY
Due to the loss of front entrance and master keys, Staff had questioned
what should be done to maintain security for the City buildings. To
provide Council with a little background, the municipal buildings were
rekeyed in 1985. At this time, it was recommended that a better system
be put in place than what was chosen. With that system, an additional
master system for the Park buildings was added and that system had been
redone completely at least once in the past. Totally, the City has
three separate systems when counting the Police Department, which is
totally separate from the City buildings.
These three systems create confusion, duplication and a lack of complete
security for all city buildings. Since some, if not all locks must be
rekeyed, it has created a window of opportunity to enhance the City's
security system. This new system would enable the City, in the event of
another lost key situation, to rekey a single installation and possibly
not issue any new keys.
The City has received two quotes on different systems. They are as
follows:
Best Locks
Standard keyway $ 7,771.20
Patented keyway* 8, 389.75
Pin set and machine 1, 600. 00
Misc. & extra keys 500. 00
* Most secure system available
Bredemus Hardware
Upgrade to removable
core system 8, 628.42
Misc. & extra keys 300. 00 AB COMMEN)ATI N:
iWe Ulrich, Public Works Supervisor
Based on the situation with the City's current lock system, Staff
recommends a complete upgrade and implementation of Option #4.
