Resolution 7356, Authorization to advertise and Recommend a Candidate for 6 <br />Hire for the Public Service Officer Position opening in the Police Department. 7 <br /> 8 <br />Chief Sommer noted that the Resolution asks for a full time person rather than the ¾ time to 9 <br />allow for more time for code enforcement to be conducted in the City, which addresses one of the 10 <br />Council’s priorities. 11 <br /> 12 <br />Mayor Marty said that he has reservations about making this position full time. 13 <br /> 14 <br />Council Member Hull agreed. 15 <br /> 16 <br />Council Member-elect Gunn said that she feels that the need code enforcement is only going to 17 <br />increase over time in the City and it is an issue very important to residents. 18 <br /> 19 <br />MOTION/SECOND: Mueller/Flaherty. To Waive the Reading and Approve Resolution 7356, 20 <br />Authorization to Advertise and Recommend a Candidate for Hire for the Public Service Officer 21 <br />Position Opening in the Police Department. 22 <br /> 23 <br />Council Member Hull asked what stops the next person from moving on to another police officer 24 <br />position. 25 <br /> 26 <br />Chief Sommer responded that the desired candidate may not want to be a police officer but the 27 <br />reality is that there would be nothing to prevent the PSO from moving on to a police officer 28 <br />position. 29 <br /> 30 <br />Council Member Stigney said that development business has slowed down so the building 31 <br />official should have time to assist with code enforcement. He then said that he does not think 32 <br />that it is time to add a full time person in this position. 33 <br /> 34 <br />Mayor Marty said that he does not feel it is the appropriate time to add this position as full time. 35 <br /> 36 <br />Council Member Flaherty said that code enforcement was the number one issue, just behind the 37 <br />street projects during his campaign. This is something that residents can see and realize 38 <br />something tangible for their tax dollars. 39 <br /> 40 <br />Mayor Marty said that he would like to consider cross training individuals from economic 41 <br />development for code enforcement since the development is way down in the City. 42 <br /> 43 <br /> Ayes – 2 Nays – 3(Hull/Marty/Stigney) Motion failed. 44 <br /> 45
