The phone was recovered and the offender was sent to the Diversion <br />Program for theft. <br /> <br />Canine (K-9) Unit <br /> <br />From January to March of 2014 the Mounds View Police Department K-9 unit has been very <br />busy. They have responded to 228 calls for service. They were deployed many times for <br />activities such as building searches, suspect searches, alarms and assisting officers with <br />warrant arrests. <br /> <br />Officer Erickson and Niko conducted meet and greet demonstrations for events in the city <br />including the annual Town Hall Meeting, Pinewood School library event, and the Firearms <br />Safety course taught by our officers through the Minnesota Department of Natural <br />Resources. <br /> <br /> <br />In March, Officer Erickson and Niko competed in their first narcotic’s detection trials. They <br />were competing with many other K-9 teams in the area. Niko successfully completed his first <br />trials and recertification for narcotics detection. <br /> <br />Officer Erickson and Niko are proud to serve the citizens of Mounds View and they are an <br />integral part of the Mounds View Police Department. The K-9 team conducts daily trainings <br />that include other Mounds View Officers so all are accustomed to working together.
