Item No: 9H <br />Meeting Date: July 10, 2016 <br />Type of Business: CB <br />Administrator Review: ____ <br /> <br />City of Mounds View Staff Report <br />To: Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />From: Don Peterson, Public Works Supervisor <br />Item Title/Subject: Resolution 8784, Approving Quote from Bituminous <br />Roadways, Inc. for Various Street Repairs <br /> <br />Background: <br /> <br />Over the past few months the City experienced two water main breaks and a failing storm <br />sewer that had excessive infiltration and allowed sand to enter the storm sewer line <br />causing the road to be undermined. <br /> <br />The water mains have been repaired and the storm sewer line is scheduled to be lined in <br />the next couple months. Staff pursued bituminous repairs with a past contractor and the <br />current contractor working on Area I to perform this work; both declined to quote due to <br />their heavy work load. <br /> <br />Discussion: <br /> <br />Staff contacted other vendors to perform the required repairs and received two quotes <br />from Bituminous Roadways, Inc. for $10,000.00 and T. A. Schifsky and Sons, Inc. for <br />$18,700.00; the low quote was received from Bituminous Roadways. <br /> <br />Funding is as follows: $7,100.00 from the Water Department Fund, 700-4823-5140, <br />repairs - streets, with a 2017 budget of $10,000.00 and $2,900.00 from Storm Water <br />Fund, 745-4415-5150, repairs and maintenance with a 2017 budget of $55,000.00. <br /> <br />It should be noted that due to the recent seal coating project a number of streets have <br />been scheduled to have the traffic lines painted by Ramsey County; bituminous repairs <br />will need to be completed before the traffic line painting can proceed. <br /> <br />Recommendation: <br /> <br />Staff recommends approving the quote from Bituminous Roadways, Inc. of Mendota <br />Heights, MN for a total of $10,000.00 for the various street repairs with funding of <br />$7,100.00 from the Water Department Fund, 700-4823-5140, repairs - streets, with a <br />2017 budget of $10,000.00 and $2,900.00 from Storm Water Fund, 745-4415-5150, <br />repairs and maintenance with a 2017 budget of $55,000.00. <br /> <br /> Respectfully submitted, <br /> <br />Don Peterson <br />Public Works Supervisor
