<br />Public Works Supervisor Position Description Page 2/6 <br /> Perform administrative duties including assisting with budget preparation and quarterly <br />reports, writing staff reports and memos, and operating a computer and software.Assists in <br />developing and monitoring public works budget to ensure that the department is operating <br />within budget. <br /> Solicit quotes and procure materials, supplies, tools, equipment, and contractual services <br />needed for O&M division work in accordance with State law and City purchasing policies. <br /> Review and validate payment invoices/purchase orders, denote budget expenditure account, <br />and submit for approval.Prepare plans and specifications for equipment and materials <br />purchased on behalf of the City on items related to Public Works activities and initiate orders <br />for parts, materials, and supplies in accordance with the City’s purchasing policy. <br /> Assist with various project development activities, including project scoping, costs estimates, <br />schedules, plans/specifications, bidding, contract administration, and construction <br />management.Assists Public Works Director in evaluating the overall needs for public works <br />improvements and makes recommendations for construction programs. <br /> Write specifications, identify and assess vendor products and/or services, and make <br />recommendations for replacement of equipment, vehicles, and other related items to the <br />Public Works Director.Reviews reports, plans, and specifications developed for construction <br />programs and advises the Public Works Director accordingly. <br /> Record and maintain records/logs/lists relating to inspections, maintenance activity, time, and <br />materials used.Develops and maintains a comprehensive cost record on all maintenance <br />projects and evaluates costs to recommend the replacement of equipment and streets. <br />Responds to after hour emergency calls and assigns personnel accordingly to ensure a quick <br />response to such calls and maintain positive community relations. <br /> Coordinate work activities with maintenance activities of parks, park facilities, buildings, and <br />grounds through collaboration with the Parks Supervisor. <br /> Keep Public Works Director informed of the status of various maintenance projects and <br />needs related to the division including the development of short- and long-range programs <br />and goals for the division operations and maintenance.Assists the Public Works Director in <br />the development of short and long-range goals for Public Works functions. <br />Determine the priority and type of maintenance and repairs to be made to equipment, streets, <br />water, sanitary sewer, and storm sewer delivery systems. <br />Manages and organizes the City’s garage and fleet of vehicles. <br />Coordinate the timely and orderly removal of snow from City streets and grounds. <br /> Enforce and instruct safety standards and applicable City, State, and Federal work rules, <br />policies, and procedures.Administers the Public Works Department’s safety and training <br />programs in conformance with all federal and state laws and takes prompt corrective action <br />concerning potential safety hazards. <br />Ensures effective utilization and motivation of all Public Works personnel. <br />Instruct personnel on proper procedures and practices for completing assigned job <br />tasks.Assigns duties to employees under his or her command. <br /> Directs and reviews supervisory practices, ensures effective communications; reviews <br />problems and recommends discipline for just cause per the City’s personnel manual, directs <br />the work of employees and adjusts grievances of employees under his/her supervision. <br /> Provide general supervision to assigned personnel including providing informal feedback <br />regarding job performance, annual performance reviews, and conducting employee <br />training.Documents employee performance and conducts performance appraisal of <br />employees.
